Kayoko Nagato (長門かよこ, Nagato Kayoko) is a student at Misora Elementary School.

Bio[]

Initially a reclusive girl, Kayoko struggled to go to school until she met Doremi, who was able to help her overcome it.

Personality[]

A smart, yet timid and fragile girl who keeps to herself, Kayoko has an interest reading and astronomy. She often experiences panic attacks while attending school to the point of becoming physically ill. As a result, Kayoko has a severe guilt complex.

Appearance[]

Kayoko has pale skin, red hair in a boyish cut, and gray eyes. She dresses in a boyish way, wearing an army green shirt with black stripes and olive shorts with pockets, both of which match the colors of her footwear. Kayoko sometimes wears a meteor necklace.

History[]

Kayoko was often bullied and teased by her classmates at her old school and had to transfer to Misora Elementary as a result. Initially, the students of the class welcomed her with open arms; she became a close friend of Masato Rinno. However, Kayoko proved it to be a very slow worker with poor grades, and would often make the groups she worked with lose. Therefore, many students started rejecting her.

When Kayoko asked Rinno for help, he couldn't comply due to his busy schedule and even told if she could "stop relying on him so much". Along with the previous events as well as heavy pressure from the teachers and her own parents (especially her father as implied in one episode), this caused her to withdraw herself from school.

Motto! Ojamajo Doremi[]

Kayoko met Doremi Harukaze while vomiting into a bush out of anxiety. Initially, Kayoko tried to avoid her as much as she could until she realized how much Doremi was a friendly girl, then befriended her and the Ojamajo.

Kayoko's repeated absence from school made both Seki-sensei and Yuki-sensei highly concerned, as both would often visit Kayoko's parents. When Doremi learned about that, she started to help Kayoko overcome her fear of going to school, but also told to take her time, as opposed to most adults who would put heavy pressure on her. Later, Kayoko revealed that she wanted to disappear because of this, implying suicidal thoughts very much. With the help of the Ojamajo, she eventually managed to go back to school, but could only stay at Yuki-sensei's cabinet at first.

Kayoko finally ended up revealing to her classmates why she was afraid to go to school. Doremi hugged her and said she was a very nice person, causing her to break down crying into her arms. After Seki-sensei and Yuki-sensei talked to her parents about it, they decided to let Kayoko work at her own pace. On Christmas, with the support of all of her classmates and teachers, she stepped into the class.

Ojamajo Doremi Dokkān! onwards[]

Not much is known of what happened beginning with Dokkān!, but it is implied that Kayoku became a very sociable girl. In the final episode of Dokkān, she thanks Doremi for allowing her to graduate with her friends.
